News from the Farmer

The 2011/12 farming year has been a tricky one to say the least. The unprecedented rainfall and lack of sunshine and warmth has meant that crops are remaining very lush and taking a long time to start to ripen. Crops may be a harvest at least a month later than normal. Fortunately grain, oilseed and pulse prices are strong and so if we can get the harvest off the ground the year may not turn out to be too bad after all.

Hay making across Scotland has been a real challenge this year due to the rain, however we have been very fortunate and got half of our crop safely baled up so far. The field that we baled sits directly alongside the eco-cabins.

We have been trying our best to make Cuplahills farm look more respectable. Trimming grass, removing weeds, tidying up and most importantly putting a fresh coat of paint on the doors and metalwork around the steading. We are very fortunate to have a several very enthusiastic helpers who make a huge difference on the farm and particular thanks must go out to David, Kim and Donald for all their help.
